Milo isn't answering my number
Six things to check when calls aren't being picked up.
Most 'Milo isn't answering' issues come down to one of six things: an unassigned number, an inactive receptionist, a misconfigured call forward, an empty balance, a temporary outage, or a settings mismatch. Work through these in order.
1. Is the number assigned to a receptionist?
Go to Numbers in your dashboard. Find the number callers are trying to reach and check the 'Assigned to' column. If it says 'Unassigned', click the number and assign it to your receptionist.
Unassigned numbers are the most common cause of missed calls after buying a new number or if you've recently reorganized your account.
2. Is the receptionist active?
Go to Receptionists and find the receptionist the number is assigned to. Check whether it's in Active or Paused status. A paused receptionist won't answer any calls.
To reactivate, click the receptionist and toggle the status back to Active.
3. Have you forwarded your old number correctly?
If callers are using your old business number (not the Milo number directly), call forwarding must be set up on your existing number's account. See the forwarding article for carrier-specific codes.
To confirm forwarding is working: call your existing business number from a separate phone. If Milo doesn't answer within 2–3 rings, forwarding isn't reaching Milo. Try calling your Milo number directly — if that works, the issue is in your carrier forwarding setup, not in Milo itself.
4. Is your balance above zero?
When your prepaid balance reaches zero, Milo stops answering. Check your balance under Billing in the dashboard. If it's at zero or critically low, add credit. See the balance article for how to top up.
You can set up auto-recharge to prevent this from happening again.
5. Are we in a known outage?
Check status.dialmilo.com for any ongoing incidents. If there's an active outage affecting call answering, it will be posted there along with an estimated resolution time.
You can subscribe to status updates via email or RSS from the status page — handy if you want to be notified the moment an incident is resolved.
6. Still stuck?
If all five checks above are clear and Milo still isn't answering, here's what to do:
- 1
Gather the details
Note the phone number that isn't being answered, the time and date of a failed call, and any error messages or recordings the caller heard.
- 2
Try a test call from your dashboard
Go to your receptionist and click Test call. If the test call works but real calls don't, the issue is almost certainly in call forwarding or number assignment.
- 3
Contact support
Email [email protected] with the details from step 1. Include your account email so the team can pull your call logs. Response time is typically under a few hours during business days.
